John Christensen ■ Actor Greg Wise takes on the UK tax avoidance industry in Dispatches tonight
Actor Greg Wise was so disgusted by the evidence of how HSBC bank helped its clients evade taxes through its Swiss subsidiary, he got angry, very angry indeed. So he turned undercover investigator to expose the disgraceful lack of ethics of the tax dodging industry. As one of the tax dodging adviser explains in the programme: “tax, as I say to all clients, is voluntary. You can choose how much you want to pay. Its pretty much down to your moral barometer.”
Greg brings some levity to a subject — and the video will boil your blood. Watch the programme on Channel 4 at 8 p.m. on Monday 8th February – view the trailer here

It is time people looked to the true source of these tax avoidance schemes, they all begin with one company that sells these onto the accountants and tax advisors. You can read about this here

Now you know where they get them from!
I thought Greg’s programme was shocking. Well, I have now learnt that the “NLA”, a limited company that our government entrust as a content, rights & database licensing business representing approx. 10,000 clients, with 60 staff, a revenue of £37m and reported assets of £15m, who target small businesses and threaten legal action to gain annual subscriptions to licences, yet somehow have a reported annual turnover of £26k and a retained profit of £9k, therefore paying little or no corporation tax since the company started many years ago. Their directors some of the wealthiest people in the country and ex government advisors. And who are the shareholders? Associated Newspapers, Express Newspapers, Financial Times, Guardian Newspapers, Independent Print, Mgl2 LTD, News UK, Telegraph Group. When our press, our own government and some of the wealthiest in our land are all in it together, united as WHITE COLLAR THIEVES, feeding their greed from the honest, hard-working people of the country, what chance do we have for tax justice?
What a hero Greg Wise is. Why are loopholes legal? Why doesn’t the Queen have a word with the so called Government seen as as HMRC stands for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs?
Well done Mr Wise. If tax was paid by all then perhaps I could retire this November instead of in 6 years time! There are so many folk in this predicament. We are people. Hardworking people who’ve paid taxes all our lives and are due a pension at an age we can enjoy it. WE ARE NOT DRONES.
