Welcome to the eighth edition of our new monthly Arabic podcast/radio show Taxes Simply الجباية ببساطة contributing to tax justice public debate around the world. (In Arabic below) Taxes Simply الجباية ببساطة is produced and presented by Walid Ben Rhouma and Osama Diab of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, also an investigative journalist. In the eighth issue of الجباية ببساطة (Taxes Simply) we start with a summary of August’s tax news from around the Arab region and the world, including:

• The arrest of Egyptian economist Raed Salama as part of a series of crackdowns against political opposition in Egypt
• Indonesia returns a $250 million yacht bought with corrupt money to Malaysia
• Apple’s 500 attempts to reduce its property tax bill
• Egypt implements a property tax and establishes a sovereign wealth fund

• In the second part of the programme Walid Ben Rhouma and Osama Diab discuss the causes of the Turkish lira crisis and its possible impact on the region.

• And in the third part of the programme we discuss with Amr Abdel Rahman of the Law and Society Research Unit of the American University in Cairo, the theories and the key intellectual contributions of economic thinker Samir Amin on the occasion of his death.

الجباية ببساطة #8 – أزمة تركية ووفاة المفكر الاقتصادي البارز سمير أمين

في العدد الثامن من “الجباية ببساطة” نبدأ بملخص لأهم أخبار الضرائب والاقتصاد في شهر أغسطس/آب من المنطقة العربية والعالم، وتشمل أخبارنا المتفرقة: أ) القبض على الاقتصادي المصري رائد سلامة من ضمن حملة اعتقالات جديدة ضد المعارضة السياسية في مصر ب) إندونيسيا تعيد يخت ثمنه ربع مليار دولار تم شراؤه بأموال منهوبة إلى ماليزيا ج) 500  محاولة لشركة آبل لتخفيض فاتورة الضريبة العقارية الخاصة بها د) مصر تُّفَّعِل تطبيق الضريبة العقارية وتؤسس صندوق ثروة سيادي.

في القسم الثاني من البرنامج وليد بن رحومة وأسامة دياب يناقشان أسباب أزمة الليرة التركية وتداعياتها المحتملة على المنطقة. أما في القسم الأخير من البرنامج، نجري حوارا مع عمرو عبد الرحمن عضو وحدة أبحاث القانون والمجتمع بالجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة عن نظريات المفكر الاقتصادي سمير أمين وأهم اسهاماته الفكرية بمناسبة وفاته .
