About the Tax Justice Network
The Tax Justice Network (TJN) is an independent international network, launched in 2003. It is dedicated to high-level research, analysis and advocacy in the area of international tax and financial regulation, including the role of tax havens. TJN maps, analyses and explains the harmful impacts of tax evasion, tax avoidance and tax competition; and supports the engagement of citizens, civil society organisations and policymakers with the aim of a more just tax system. TJN pursues systemic changes that address the international inequality in the distribution of taxing rights between countries; the national inequalities – including gender inequalities – that arise from poor tax policies; and the national and international obstacles to progressive national tax policies and effective financial regulation.
The Tax Justice Network operates virtually with its legal base in the UK and staff working from home across multiple countries and continents.
Role description
The continuing success and expansion of our suite of Tax Justice Network podcasts means we need a new role to support our creative strategist, podcast coordinator and Taxcast producer and host Naomi Fowler with research, production and dissemination processes for all of the podcasts, and to take an active lead in helping us expand new audiences globally.
Our five monthly podcasts are currently in English, Arabic, Portuguese, French and Spanish. They are produced by separate, highly skilled production teams who also have strong knowledge of tax and economic justice issues. Each podcast is focused on its own regional and political context. We plan a new South Asian podcast and others to follow. We are also developing stand-alone podcast series with memoirs of key players in the tax justice and anti-corruption movement.
We’re looking for someone with proven skills in podcasting, editing and production, research and planning, story-telling, interview sourcing and podcast promotion. You’ll have a burning passion to engage people around the world on social and economic justice issues. Strong English language skills are essential. Multiple languages and experience in communicating in the field of economic and social justice is extremely desirable. You need to be self-motivated, good with working to deadlines and comfortable working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Produce (edit) the final scripts for the (English language) Taxcast and upload
- Fine edit the other podcasts before they are released by each team (audio level checks etc)
- Support with research and planning, including sometimes assisting all podcasters to source interviewees, possibly plan and conduct some interviews (most are done remotely)
- Creative and production support with new one-off podcast series (eg memoirs of key tax justice figures)
- Development and audience expansion: promote the podcasts by sourcing new opportunities, new platforms, new broadcasters; support podcast teams in their promotion efforts
- Additional areas of work (if there’s time!) may include support in producing explainers and shorts on key topics such as the 5 Rs of tax justice and short podcast trailers of upcoming podcasts for social media promotion etc
